Selecting a Toy Dump Truck
When selecting a toy dump truck, be aware of the person that the truck will be for, and the ways in which it will be used.
For infants and younger children, it is best to select a dump truck made from soft, rounded plastic. These should be void of any sharp edges or small parts that could creak off and be accidentally swallowed. These trucks are durable, colorful, and should last quite a long time. You’ll find good selection from Fisher-Price and Little Tikes.
For older kids who will be playing with the trucks, it is best to buy one that is made of metal. Diecast is the most common, and the more metal, the more durable it will be. While there will always be some plastic parts, be careful to select a toy dump truck that has moving parts made of metal or rugged plastic, especially handles or levers, as these will have the most stress applied to them. Trucks from Tonka and Buddy-L will fit the bill perfectly for these kids.
For adults, just about any material will work fine since the toy truck is not likely to be played with. In general, you will want to get a truck that is the most realistic looking. But also be aware of the type of vehicles that the person collects. For example, some collectors are looking for wooden trucks while others are looking for antiques. Many adults (and kids) the have model rail roads will use toy dump trucks as accessories, so you should look for a dump truck of the proper scale, such as HO or N.
